Tasso in Ferrara
In collaboration with the Tasso in Music Project, Les Canards Chantants presents a musical timeline of celebrated Italian renaissance poet Torquato Tasso’s fruitful and tumultuous years at the court of Duke Alfonso II d’Este in Ferrara. Through the music of Marenzio, Fontanelli, Gesualdo, Luzzaschi, D’India, Massaino, Boschetti, Virchi, Agostini, and Wert (including several modern premiers!), this all-madrigal program explores diverse settings of Tasso’s Rime, an interlude from his first pastoral play L’Aminta, and excerpts from his epic poem Gerusalemme liberata.
